Fashion Holiday // Ferragamo Museum

Durante la mia settimana di vacanza a Firenze non potevo non visitare almeno uno dei musei interamente dedicati alle maison della moda fiorentina. Così, ho optato per il Museo di Salvatore Ferragamo che adesso ospita la mostra "Il Calzolaio Prodigioso", raccontando del legame creato sin dall'alba dei tempi, tra scarpe e fiabe, di cui il grande protagonista é lo stesso Ferragamo.

Dopo la prima sala, interamente dedicata alle sue creazioni piú famose, come quelle create per Marilyn Monroe o le Rainbow, si viene catapultati in un percorso "multimediale" in cui il legame tra scarpe e fiabe viene raccontato con video, disegni/bozzetti e tante paia di scarpe. Si comincia, naturalmente, da Cenerentola (si, io e mia madre abbiamo rivisto tutto lo spezzone del celebre cartone della Disney), passando al Gatto degli Stivali e a veri e propri miti come quello delle scarpe dello Psicopompo. Secondo questo mito, attraverso le scarpe, le fanciulle potevano attraversare le porte dell'aldilà per un ultimo ballo con i loro amori deceduti in guerra. Bellissime anche le ultime due sale interamente dedicate a Mister Ferragamo, la prima con tutti i bozzetti della graphic novel di Frank Espinosa incentrata sulla sua storia e l'altra con il corto White Shoe dove troviamo un piccolo Salvatore alle prese con la creazione del suo primo paio di scarpe.

During my holiday week in Firenze, I couldn't not to visit one of the museums entirely dedicated to the fashion Florentine maison. That's why I decided to go to the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum where now is still taking place the exhibit "The Wonderful Shoemaker" which talks about the strong bond between shoes and fairytales whereof the main character is Ferragamo himself. After the first room, entirely dedicated to his most famous creations such as those created for Marilyn Monroe or the Rainbow, you were catapulted into a multimedia route where the bond between shoes and fairytales is telling through a video, some drawings/sketches and a lot of shoes. It starts, of course, with Cinderella (me and my mother saw all the clips of the famous Disney's cartoon) ,then the Puss in Boots, up to real myths such as that of the Psicopompo's shoes. This myth, for example, tells of beautiful girls who through the shoes could pass the afterworld and meet their lovers, dead during the war, for a last dance. Also amazing were the two rooms dedicated to Sir Ferragamo: the first one included all the sketches of the graphic novel by Frank Espinosa, which talks about the shoemaker story and the other one with the short film White Shoe where we find a little Salvatore who is creating his first pair of shoes.
